This post is a follow-up to our previous blog entry, where we talked a bit about the consumerist roots of Black Friday and attempted to raise awareness about its negative effects on our society and environment. We pledged to close our shop on Black Friday and released a petition for those who want to show their solidarity for our initiative and take part in reducing the damaging impacts of unnecessary spending, unethical trading practices and overconsumption this ‘holiday’ advocates.
You may be wondering; What am I lending my name to if I sign this petition? You would be declaring your commitment to our aim to actively boycott compulsive spending this Black Friday and generally promote making informed decisions with our purchases and the brands we support. We believe in investing in products, services and organisations that are aware of our social and environmental responsibilities and champion ethics and quality, rather solely focusing on profit.
Sounds good, right? Here is the link to our petition if you would like to join us in pledging to go GREEN this Black Friday: https://actionstorm.org/petitions/reduce-the-impact-of-black-friday
Resisting the urge to consume can be a tricky task, especially on Black Friday when we are constantly tempted by seemingly unmissable deals, sales, and crazy price reductions. Remember, that it’s okay to make mistakes, the most important thing is to be willing to take steps towards becoming a more conscious consumer. However big or small the change you make is; the planet will thank you for it!
